About
Unitarian Universalists

Unitarian Universalism was formed in 1961 from the consolidation of two religions: Unitarianism and Universalism. In America, the Universalist Church of America was founded in 1793, and the American Unitarian Association in 1825. Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religious faith tradition which affirms and promotes Seven Principles, drawn from the teachings of the world's wisdom traditions. These UU Seven Principles affirm such things as the inherent worth and dignity of every person and the interconnected web of all creation, of which we are a part. Our spirituality draws from scripture and science, nature and philosophy, personal experience, and ancient tradition as described in our six Sources of Our Living Tradition.

“Love is the Spirit of this Congregation and Service is it's Law"

Rev. Jason Seymour

MINISTER

Family Ministry

We believe that developing religious identity is a lifelong process. From the youngest age, children are encouraged to explore their sense of self, their relationship with others and their understanding of the divine. In individual, small group, large group, intergenerational, in person and online gatherings, children, youth and families are provided stimulating and transformational opportunities to learn and grow spiritually

Music & The Arts

Music is a powerful spiritual practice- and we are an active musical congregation!

UUSGS has a professional Director of Music who offers music during worship via grand piano and beautiful Skinner Aeolian organ and directs all musical activities. UUSGS has an adult choir of professional and amateur musicians, as well as youth and children's choirs (ages 7+). In addition to supporting UUSGS worship, children and youth choirs participate outside UUSGS in interfaith and community music events.

Unity House Players produces high quality youth and adult community theater events throughout the year. Productions draw from the region and include a professional pit orchestra of local musicians.

Justice, Equity & Compassion

Through our Justice Teams, we gather our collective energies to be a force of love, joy and justice to help heal the world. UUSGS Justice Ministry teams address Racial and Economic Justice, Climate Justice (Green Team), Refugee Justice. Teams engage regularly online and in-person, with a focus on developing and implementing actions within and beyond the congregation to impact change in the broader community.

Adult Spiritual Growth

Spiritual growth is a lifelong process, and we have many opportunities at UUSGS to support your mind, body, and spirit on this journey. Small group ministry, (Covenant Groups), provide a space to connect online and in-person with others to explore our monthly worship themes and its meaning more deeply in your life. Weekly group experiences such as Virtual Tai Chi, Meditation and Yoga provide an opportunity to practice embodied application of spiritual practice. Weekly lecture series and workshops provide opportunity to deepen your learning and connection to our community and the issues of relevance in our lives.
